A floor that is genuinely one of a kind

Metallic epoxy is where floor coating becomes an art form. Instead of a uniform color or a scattered chip pattern, metallic floors use fine pearlescent and mica pigments suspended in clear epoxy. While the material is still liquid, our installers manipulate it with rollers, trowels, brushes and solvent sprays to create swirls, veins, waves and pools of light. As the pigment particles settle at different angles, they reflect light differently, giving the finished floor remarkable depth β€” like looking into polished marble, molten metal or a river delta from the air.

Because every floor is worked by hand, no two metallic floors are ever the same. That is exactly why homeowners, designers and business owners in Mesa choose them: a metallic floor becomes the centerpiece of the room rather than the background.

Where metallic epoxy shines

  • Great rooms and kitchens in contemporary desert homes, where the floor reflects natural light and mountain views.
  • Collector and show garages for car enthusiasts who want the space to look as polished as the vehicles.
  • Retail showrooms and boutiques that need a memorable, high-end first impression.
  • Salons, spas and studios where design and easy cleaning matter equally.
  • Restaurants, bars and tasting rooms looking for a distinctive look that stands up to service traffic.
  • Offices and lobbies that want to communicate creativity and quality the moment visitors walk in.

How we install a metallic floor

Preparation is still everything

Metallic floors are glossy and reflective, which means they reveal flaws in the slab more readily than a flake floor. We grind the concrete with diamond tooling, repair every crack, spall and joint, and in many cases apply a skim coat to create a smooth, uniform base. Moisture testing is especially important indoors, where vapor can create cloudy spots or bubbles in a clear system.

Primer and ground coat

Next we apply an epoxy primer to seal the concrete and prevent outgassing, followed by a tinted ground coat. The ground coat color has a big influence on the final look: a dark ground gives metallic pigments more contrast and drama, while a lighter ground creates a softer, more luminous effect.

The metallic layer

This is where artistry takes over. Clear epoxy mixed with one or more metallic pigments is poured onto the floor and spread to the correct thickness. Our installers then work the material to create the look you chose β€” broad, soft movement; tight, defined veining; or a lunar, cratered effect. Multiple colors can be introduced to create marble-like contrast. Timing, temperature and technique all affect the result, which is why experience matters so much with metallics.

Protective topcoat

Epoxy on its own will gradually amber in sunlight, so we finish metallic floors with a clear, UV-stable topcoat. This layer adds scratch and chemical resistance, protects the color from sun coming through windows and doors, and lets us control the final sheen from high gloss to satin.

Designing your metallic floor

Choosing a metallic floor is more of a design conversation than picking a color off a chart. We start by understanding the room β€” its light, furnishings, cabinetry and the feeling you want to create. Popular palettes in Mesa homes include pearl white with silver and charcoal veining for a marble look, warm champagne and copper tones that echo desert sunsets, deep charcoal and graphite for a dramatic modern space, and ocean blues and teals for pool houses and casual living areas.

We bring physical metallic samples to your consultation and can show you photos of previous floors in similar palettes. Because metallics are hand-worked, we also talk through the level of movement you prefer so expectations are clear before we begin.

Honest expectation: metallic floors are an artisan finish. Variation, movement and subtle shifts in color are the whole point. If you need a perfectly uniform appearance, we will recommend a solid-color system instead.

Performance and practical considerations

Metallic floors are beautiful, but they are also tough. Once fully cured and topcoated, they resist stains, chemicals and everyday wear and are easy to clean with a dust mop and damp mop. There are a few things to keep in mind:

  • High-gloss finishes show dust and footprints more than satin or textured floors. Many homeowners choose a satin topcoat for daily living areas.
  • Like any glossy surface, metallic floors can be slippery when wet. We can add a fine anti-slip additive to the topcoat in kitchens, entries and commercial spaces.
  • In garages, metallics are best for collector spaces with lighter vehicle use. For daily drivers, a flake or polyaspartic system is usually more practical.
  • Grit is the enemy of any shiny floor. Entrance mats and felt furniture pads go a long way.

Metallic floors in Arizona light

The intense natural light in the East Valley makes metallic floors look especially striking. Morning and evening sun raking across the floor brings out the movement and depth of the pigments, and the reflective surface bounces light deeper into the room. Because we always finish with a UV-stable topcoat, rooms with large windows and sliding doors keep their color for years.

Metallic epoxy for businesses

For commercial clients, a metallic floor is as much a branding decision as a flooring decision. A boutique, salon, fitness studio or showroom with a custom metallic floor instantly looks premium and memorable, and photos of the space stand out on social media and review sites. We can build palettes around your brand colors, incorporate borders or zones to define areas of the room, and choose topcoats with the abrasion and chemical resistance your traffic levels require. Many commercial metallic floors in the Valley are installed over a weekend or overnight to avoid closing for business.

In higher-traffic commercial settings we often recommend a tougher urethane topcoat and a maintenance plan that includes periodic recoating of the clear layer. That approach keeps the floor looking new for years while protecting the decorative metallic layer underneath, which never needs to be redone as long as the topcoat is maintained.

Caring for metallic epoxy

Daily care is simple: dust-mop with a clean microfiber pad to pick up grit before it can scratch, and damp-mop with warm water and a small amount of pH-neutral cleaner when needed. Avoid oil-based soaps, vinegar mixtures and abrasive pads, which can leave a film or dull the finish. Put felt pads on chair and table legs, and use a quality entrance mat at every exterior door to keep desert dust and sand off the floor. With that routine, a metallic floor stays glossy and vibrant for many years.

Timeline and cure

A typical residential metallic floor takes about three to four days to complete, including preparation, repairs, primer, ground coat, metallic layer and topcoat. Each layer needs adequate cure time before the next. Light foot traffic is usually allowed a day or so after the topcoat, with furniture moved back a few days later. Commercial projects are scheduled around your operating hours, and we will provide a clear day-by-day plan in your proposal.

Metallic floors in the garage

Collector garages are one of our favorite places to install metallic epoxy. A deep charcoal or silver metallic floor under good lighting makes classic cars, sports cars and motorcycles look like they are parked in a showroom. Because metallics are glossier and slightly softer than flake systems, we recommend them for garages where vehicles are not driven in and out multiple times a day, and we finish them with a tough, UV-stable topcoat.

Metallic FAQ

Metallic epoxy questions

Can I see my floor before it is installed?

We show physical samples and photos of similar floors. Because each floor is hand-worked, the final result will be unique, but we align closely on palette and movement before we start.

Will metallic epoxy hide imperfections?

Not as well as flake. Its gloss can highlight slab flaws, which is why we put extra effort into grinding, repair and skim coating.

Can metallic floors be used outdoors?

We do not recommend metallic epoxy for direct outdoor exposure. For patios, we suggest our exterior coating systems instead.

Is metallic epoxy more expensive?

Usually, yes. The additional layers, pigments and skilled labor make it a premium finish compared with flake or solid color. Your proposal will itemize the costs.
